Tiger's Eye

Color:  Golden yellow to a golden brown

Treatment:  Reddish-brown color produced by heating the stone.
Often bleached to lighten its color, commonly dyed .

Deposits:  South Africa, Australia, Burma, California.

Cabochon (rounded top) gemstones display a cat's eye effect.

Talismanic Use:  In early history Roman solders wore tiger's eye engraved with symbols to protect themselves from danger.
